Getting Ready for the New Year

I can’t believe it’s almost the end of 2010. This year has gone by so fast, partly because I’ve been so busy. I’m already getting into the “soccer mom” routine, although my almost 4yr old doesn’t play sports yet. But, between various therapies, preschool, playgroups, and then all my stuff…live has been hectic. I have been so unfocused on online work – flitting from idea to idea so fast that nothing has really taken shape. And it’s really dragging on my mental state and my bank account.

There’s been a general consensus among quite a few niche bloggers that focus is where it’s at. Now, that doesn’t have to mean focusing on one site – it could mean focuses on building a site to flip every week or every day if you are crazy. No, what focus means (to me anyway) is choosing something to stick with and really work at long enough to see if it’s what you want to do and if it’s an earner.

I’ve really let myself be sucked in to some stupid hype this year. As a single Mom, I need to be the bread-earner. But I need to balance that with having enough free time to devote to my son and his special needs. So far, I’ve been VERY lucky to be able to stay home with him and devote my time to him. But, I still need to make money…and I sort of bought into some stupid “start making $1,000 a day in just 24 hours” sort of crapola. I’m not saying it can’t be done – I’ve seen people do it. I’m just not there yet and I will never get there as long as I’m spending money on other people’s methods and not sticking with something long enough to make it work for me.

So, to make a long story short (I know, too late), I’ve decided to focus on one thing for at least 6 months. It’s a big project and I’m not going to devote my full internet time to it until Jan 1, 2011. Until then, I’m just organizing thoughts and ideas for it. That leaves me 2 months to play around, and I’ve decided to challenge a couple blogging friends to a 2 month long contest. If they agree to it, I’ll post more about it here.
